ABOUT THE ARTISTS

John Lindsey , VIOLIN

John Lindsey holds the highest rank conferred upon a faculty member in the State University of New York System, the SUNY Distinguished Service Professor. Professor Lindsey has been on the violin faculty at the internationally known Crane School of Music since 1981. In 1993 he was awarded the SUNY Potsdam President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and, in 2003, the prestigious State University of New York Chancellor’s Award, also for Excellence in Teaching. In 1973, he was presented with the annual Mozart Award by Wilkes College (Now King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA). Mr. Lindsey was recognized by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England, with the 2003 International Musician of the Year Award and with the Mozart Award for Musical Achievement in the fall of 2008. In 1989 he was selected from over 200 applicants as the winner of the city of Dayton Ohio’s Annual Allegro Residency for the Arts.

Mr. Lindsey is in great demand as a concertmaster, soloist, chamber musician, violin teacher, and chamber music coach. He has been the Concertmaster of the Orchestra of Northern New York for the past 25 years and the ELEVA Chamber Players (VT), a string orchestra without a conductor founded in 2006. He has served as the Concertmaster of the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dallas (TX) Chamber Soloists, the Warren (OH) Chamber Orchestra, the Champlain Valley Symphony Orchestra (NY), the Castle Farm Festival Orchestra (MI), the Belleayre Summer Festival Orchestra (NY), and the Hanover (NH) Chamber Orchestra, a post he held for 18 years. Mr. Lindsey was Concertmaster and Soloist of an orchestra that toured Israel and Jordan in 1973. The final concert was given at the Cultural Palace in Amman for His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan. In 1978 he played chamber music for Prince Philip of England.

Mr. Lindsey has appeared in solo recitals in many locations. Among them are New York City’s Carnegie Recital Hall (twice) and The Bruno Walter Auditorium in Lincoln Center (five times) as well as in Boston, Montreal, Dallas, and in Chicago on the Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Public Library. His New York City debut recital was presented at the Museum of the City of New York in March of 1981. Prior to his appointment at The Crane School of Music, Mr. Lindsey was Chairman of Strings at Baylor University, The Governor’s School of North Carolina, and the University of Kentucky. He also taught strings for 2 years in the public schools for the Dallas (TX) Independent School District. For 3 years, Mr. Lindsey held the Conductor and Music Director position for the Danville-Centre College Orchestra (KY). A dedicated chamber musician, John has been first violinist of the Aurora Quintet, the Lexington String Quartet, the Quartetto da Camera, NUMA (New and Unusual Music Artists) Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Potsdam Piano Quartet, and the Concord Piano Trio. Mr. Lindsey is listed in 17 national and international who’s who publications, among them, Who’s Who in American Music, the International Who’s Who of Intellectuals, The Directory of Distinguished Americans, The Cambridge Who’s Who, and Who’s Who in International Music. In the spirit of his gifted pedagogue teacher, Paul Rolland, Professor Lindsey has presented master classes in numerous locations for many years. Since 1994, he has been heavily involved in a variety of capacities involving the founding and special nurturing of the string program for the St. Lucia School of Music on the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. In June of 2011, he gave a violin recital and a series of master classes at the Shenyang Conservatory in The People’s Republic of China. In January, 2013, he will be on the Artist Faculty of the Colombian Government sponsored National Youth Orchestra Festival in Bogota, Colombia. He was invited to be a part of the Saarburger Festival in July of 2013 in Saarburg, Germany.

John Lindsey has shared his expertise and musical insights with gifted students from around the world . In 2008, Mr. Lindsey and his wife Amornrat founded the Thailand Chamber Music Festival, which was held from 2010-2012 in Thailand during the winter holiday season.

Shuenda Wong , PIANO

Shuenda Wong studied at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, Germany and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, UK fully supported by various scholarships, where he gained a Masters in Piano Performance. He has performed extensively across Asia and Europe and won many Prizes and awards at international and national piano competitions.

In demand as an adjudicator in piano competitions in and by invitation from Trinity Guildhall, Shuenda gives regular seminars across the country and the ASEAN region. His students have won many prizes as well aided by a teaching philosophy based on his training as a concert pianist – which places an emphasis on technique as an integral part of musical expression, communication and personality in music performance, and strong stylistic awareness and artistry.
