VIOLIN & PIANO DUO RECITAL
On Thursday, February 20th - 7:30 pm @ Siam Music Auditorium in the ground floor of Fortune Town Building by MRT Rama 9 Station D & M Music Studio in cooperation with Siam Music Auditorium proudly presents " A Piano & Violin Duo Recital " by Ivan Novinc, violin Srđan Čaldarović, piano
Ivan Novinc graduated violin at the Music Academy in Zagreb in 2000, class of professor Maja Dešpalj-Begović. He has won numerous prizes at state competitions both as solo player and as the first violin of the Porin string quartet, and has also performed solo and in chamber ensembles throughout the world (Croatia, Slovenia, France, Spain, Austria, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Sweden, Russia, Mexico, Japan, and Argentina). He studied with M. Despalj, M. Fedotov, V. Dešpalj, M. Maurer, O. Shorgout, and L. Hond. In the years 2002-2006 he was the deputy concert master of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2001 he has been the first violin of the Cantus modern music ensemble; in addition, he has led the Zadar Chamber Orchestra since 2004. He has recorded for the Croatian national radio, the Austrian radio and the Cantus publishing house, and has been a member of the HDGU (Croatian Association of Music Artists) since 2002. Currently, Mr. Novinc is teaching violin at the Music Academy in Zagreb, as a Teaching Assistant of Prof. Maja Dešpalj-Begović.
Srdjan F. Caldarovic, born in 1973 in Zagreb, Croatia, started to play piano at the age of five. At the age of 13 he had already played as a soloist with several orchestras. In 1995 he graduated in piano major at the Music Academy, University of Zagreb in the class of Prof. Vladimir Krpan. Caldarovic went onwards to perfect his pianist skills at Indiana University in Bloomington with Prof. Leonard Hokanson (1996), and later at the Trinity College of Music with Prof. Philip Fowke (2000). After completing these performance-oriented programs, Caldarovic became a Teaching assistant at the University of Miami School of Music where he obtained a Masters degree in Piano performance, under the guidance of a great musician J.B. Floyd (2002). He has actively participated in master classes held by E. Timakin, S. Costa, R. Kehrer, J. Rose, and R. de Waal. He has given a number of recitals in Croatia and in the USA, and he holds a position as the Assistant Professor at the Music Academy, Piano Department in Zagreb. For several of his performances, Caldarovic has won outstanding awards (Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1, Liszt: Sonata in B minor). For his Washington debut music critic Cecilia Porter wrote Caldarovic's playing reveals consummate artistry in coupling an introspective approach with refined sensitivity for phrasing...
