Concert announcement On Tuesday, January 13, 2009 commencing at 8 pm at Thai German Cultural Foundation Auditorium on South Sathorn Road Soi 1 (Tel: 02-287-2822) . D&M Music Studio is pleased to present A Flute and Piano Duo Recital performed by American artists flutist Peter H. Bloom and pianist/harpist Mary Jane Rupert. In a collaboration spanning 20 years, flutist Peter H. Bloom and pianist/harpist Mary Jane Rupert have performed in venues across the United States, winning praise for compelling performances of repertoire by European and American masters. Flutist Peter H. Bloom, whose playing has been called "a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength" (The Boston Globe), tours with leading ensembles and appears on 30 CDs from SONY Classical, Dorian, Newport Classic, Leo Records, and other labels) with distribution throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Winner of the American Musicological Societys coveted Noah Greenberg Award, he is an acclaimed classical musician and also a noted jazz artist, celebrating his 30th season as flutist/saxophonist with the internationally acclaimed Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (a saxophonic blend worthy of Duke Ellingtons finest reed sections - Jazz Times). In solo recitals and ensemble concerts, Mr. Bloom has performed at the American Musical Instrument Society, the National Flute Association, Harvard University , Yale University , Princeton University , The National Gallery ( Washington , DC ), the Metropolitan Museum ( New York City ), The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park Florida, Atlanta s famed Spivey Hall, University of North Carolina at Charlotte , and many other venues. He is historical woodwind consultant for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; provides musical direction for museum exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad; and has given lecture-demonstrations and master classes at esteemed institutions including Kenyon College, Davidson College, Bowdoin College, University of Colorado at Boulder, and the Henry Ford Museum, to name a few. A board member of the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition, Mr. Bloom received a Master of Music with Distinction from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he won the Baroque Concerto Competition, and holds a BA in Philosophy from Boston University . He pursued performance studies at Hochschule Mozarteum, Salzburg ; Longy School of Music; and Aston Magna Institute. He served previously on the faculties of New England Conservatory of Music, The Dana Hall School of Music and The Brooks School. Mary Jane Rupert, acclaimed as a concert pianist and harpist, has performed throughout the world from Carnegie Recital Hall to the Beijing Concert Hall. She has appeared with symphony orchestras and chamber music groups across the United States , including the Boston Philharmonic, Louisville ( Kentucky ) Symphony, Mannheim Steamroller, The New Philharmonia, St. Joseph Symphony Orchestra in Missouri , Monadnock Orchestra, Scarborough Chamber Players, Underground Composers and others. Mary Jane Rupert appears on CDs from North Star and Harmony Hill. She serves on the music faculties of Tufts University , Wellesley College , Boston College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has taught at Oberlin College , Indiana University, Western Michigan University , and elsewhere. Dr. Rupert holds a DM in Piano Performance and Music Literature, an MM in Piano, and an MM in Harp from Indiana University , as well as a BM in Piano from Oberlin College . Acclaimed by The Washington Post as one of the most inventive composers working in America today, Elizabeth Vercoe has been a composer at the Civitella Ranieri Center in Italy, the St. Petersburg Spring Music Festival in Russia, the Cit้ International des Arts in Paris, the Charles Ives Center for American Music, and the MacDowell Colony. She has received commissions from Wellesley College , the Pro Arte Orchestra and the First International Congress on Women in Music, among others, and is the recipient of grants from Meet the Composer, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Artists Foundation. She serves on the faculty of Regis College . Evening programme include works by: Sonata in A Major, BWV 1032 by J.S.
